transgender hellhounds save the world

ABOUT ME

Hi, hello, I'm Vex! More formally known as flatwoodsdaemon if we're going full government.

I'm an animation student from the horrible wet island we call the UK. I'm a semi-professional digital artist, a retired streamer and a very amateur hobbyist web developer. Artistically, my biggest focus is on my own original characters; I love exploring their personalities and how it affects both their relationships with each other and with the world around them. Thematically I'm very interested in exploring themes of nonhumanity - I make art for the people who wish they had tails.

My internship came about at a pretty rough period for the animation industry, so it's felt difficult as of recent to be excited about stories and art, and I made this website in the hopes of getting some of that old spark back. It's been fun to feel like a total beginner all over again. I've been really throwing myself into the furry community in particular, as it feels like a last bastion of artistic authenticity and unabashed creativity. Expect me to quote Patricia Taxxon a lot!

I'm also a huge fan of video games - despite being the animation guy, it's maybe my favourite artistic medium! I'm a big fan of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Persona, and I hold the Zelda series incredibly near and dear to my heart. In terms of genre, I like just about anything, really, except for maybe shooter games. I like RPGs, open worlds and platformers, and puzzle games if they're decently easy.

A secondary reason for making this site was to just in general be more open about myself. I have a lot of thoughts, about art, about life, about whatever, and I wanted an outlet to officially publish them, especially when it's a niche topic that I feel uniquely qualified to talk about but feel too afraid to on other platforms. It's a little dire out there when you identify as non-human! But with this site, nobody can be annoying on here but me. That's right, the person reading this. You have no control here. Fuck you!

FUN FACTS AND THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
  • I have ADHD and I'm autistic! Sometimes this causes me to be extremely overly analytical about things, especially after my internship. I don't really understand why people take criticism of media they like so personally, so I can be kind of blunt accidentally about the things people like... oops.
  • I'm therian and an otherkin, which you can find out more about in the Otherkinity tab. Speaking briefly, I identify as a demon, for real. I could spend forever (and have) psychoanalysing myself and exactly why I feel that way, but the only part that matters is that it feels more comfortable for me to refer to myself as a demon than to refer to myself as human. I'm also a wolf therian, so I call myself a hellhound too sometimes. In terms of referring to me, just don't refer to me as human and we'll be okay - I don't need to be worshipped or anything. Unless..... haha, just kidding!
  • I make all my art using a XP-Pen 15.6 Pro Tablet and Clip Studio Paint EX. For on the go, I use my Magic Drawing Pad (I hate that name, but it's also by XP-Pen). I'd recommend everything BUT the Magic Drawing Pad - it's got a couple screen and colour issues, but it's good for doodling and finishing things up on the go.
  • I love alternative fashion, but I don't particularly ascribe myself to any specific style. The closest would likely be emo, but I don't really identify all that much with that label. I just dress a bit edgy, I'm not entrenched enough in any particular subculture to call myself punk or goth or emo. I'm a weird little freak who likes chokers and 2010s internet aesthetics.
  • Despite all the original Monster branding I use, I actually hate that flavour. The only Monster flavour I particularly like is Pipeline Punch!
  • The phrase "transgender hellhounds save the world" didn't really come from anywhere. It's sort of meant to represent the idea that the outcasts of society (the damned and the trans) are the ones keeping art alive and interesting. Or something symbolic like that. The truth is that I just think it's cool to say.
